I took the SAT Math II in May and got a 780 on it. I’m unsure if I should retake it in August and try to get a higher score as a 780 is only in the 72nd percentile. I’m planning to apply to engineering schools such as UC Berkeley, Georgia Tech, and WPI.
780 is a solid score! Schools will not consider the percentile, only the score (with Math II, only the self selecting few who are advanced in math take it…so don’t worry about the percentile, only the score). No reason to spend time and money retaking. Focus on other aspects of your application.
Since you indicate you are applying to engineering schools, many may require a subject test in a science (some specify Physics), so make sure you look up the schools and get whatever specific requirements they designate under your belt. Good luck!
I agree with @ThinkOn
A 780 on the SAT Math II is more than sufficient. Subject tests are not about the percentiles. That being said, ideally you will want a science score in the mid 700+ range as well.
Yeah I got a 790 on my chemistry subject test so I should be fine there.
wow lol i got the exact same scores as you (this is late, ik) but i was worrying as well: 780 on math 2 is fine, i guess, but ALL my friends and peers got 800. i felt super dumb for the longest time, and i know my chances are already shot down for caltech/mit basically. sigh
