Should I Retake the SAT thread

Anyone who has questions about whether to retake the SAT or not can post questions here.

I need advice, should I retake the SAT with a 2260 single sitting and 2300 superscored. (2 tests) The highest I have on each section is 800 math, 700 cr, 800 writing. I am wondering if I should retake it to improve cr section because colleges dont really care about writing. Also do I need to take the ACT ever? The colleges I am looking at are Duke and Northwestern.

Thanks a lot

You should NOT retake the SAT. That score is great for those schools-focus on ECs, rec letters, transcript, etc.

ACT? Maybe. Depends if the school needs it. But probably not.

I just took the SAT for the first time and was ecstatic to find out I got a 2330:

Critical Reading: 730
Math: 790
Writing: 800

I am very happy with my score, and the CR subscore was no surprise… but does anyone think I should take it again? I’m not sure if I could really improve CR by that much more, but could it be worth the shot? Would colleges even care if I bring it up like 30 points on my second try?

I would really appreciate some advice. Thanks! (Whether I retake it or not, I am very happy with this score :D)

Oh and I’m looking at top colleges, like Princeton and Brown

700 CR
800 Math
800 Writing (79 with an 11 essay)

hate CR. and i’m good/lucky at vocab (only one wrong ever between two sats and psat). feels so subjective to me. but i think i could possibly improve
should i retake to try to increase my CR/math score as that’s the most important, or is the 1500 enough?
second time i took it. first time went in cold and got 600/720/720.
looking to get into lower level ivy (Upenn, cornell) or perhaps duke. Have good ECs (3 sport varsity, E-in-C of paper, decent volunteer work). just don’t want to leave myself regretting. taking act and SAT II (math and Chem) in june.

None of you should retake, seeing as how college apps are now officially a crapshoot acceptance.

I got an 1890:
670 CR
620 M
600 W (w/ 8 Essay)

I’m also aiming for Ivy league schools…so, I’m definitely retaking the SAT, but I’m wondering when I should. I’m going to take my Subject Tests in June, so that either leaves May or October. Any thoughts?

Also, any study tips anyone has that could help me improve? This was also my first time taking the SAT, so…I could’ve done worse, I suppose.

Having taken the SAT for the first time, I got a 2280, with a 790 M, 800 CR, and 690 W (79 MC and appalling essay). Should I retest, given that I scored a 1590 on Math+CR, the two sections which colleges place more emphasis on? Im looking at applying ED to Duke as a South Dakota resident

@mt101101, definitely retake. Don’t give colleges any excuse to reject you. even an increase of 50 points in CR is helpful

I got a 2230
CR 760
Math 720
Writing 750
Essay 11

Should I retake? I’m looking to major in Biochem at top schools, and I’m also taking the ACT April 9th, and it looks like I’ll get between a 30 and 35 on it

just a general opinion, I think you should all at least take the SAT twice unless your first score was 2350+. I did prep work from june-october 2010 and took the nov sat and scored a 2300 (750M&CR, 800W). december and january were super busy so I decided to just take it in march for a last-chance kinda stab at a 2400. barely any studying and I got a 2390! (800CR&W, 790M (FREAKING MATH UGH))

so…might as well squeeze in an extra test, as long as you’re reasonably confident that the worst you’ll do is -100 from your previous score. plus, there’s superscore! (but I guess that depends on where you’re applying.)

Hey Everyone,

I got a 2280 (800M, 740CR, 740W). I have a decent, but not spectacular GPA (3.9-4.1) weighted, but this is due to a semester of death in my family, I have strong personal statements/recs to back it up), and some great extracurriculars. Will retaking it benefit me for Ivy’s/UC Berkeley? I know I can probably do better, but is it worth the time? This is my first time taking it.

Should I retake a 2060 if my PSAT score was 208? Thanks in advance.

Should I reatake a 2280 (2290 superscored) for top tier non Ivys (Tufts, Barnard, etc)? My GPA is not good due to medical problems (3.79 UW/4.3 W).

I got a 2110 (680 CR/690 M/740 W (68 MC/11Essay)). Should I retake?

Some schools I’m planning on applying to in descending order of choice:
Columbia (ED)
UChicago (EA)
UCLA
Georgetown
GWash U
NYU
Rutgers-NB
SUNY Stony Brook

My UW GPA is around 3.8, and my EC’s are good and very concentrated in specific areas. I’m also a low-income student and a frist generation college student.
I got an 1820 on the SAT as a sophomore last June and the 2110 was from March, and I took about 6 practice tests to study.
Suggestions?

I got 700 M 740 W 780 CR. I got 720M last time and I know I could have gotten at least 750 M if I didn’t make stupid mistakes. Should I retake it just to raise my math score? I’m worried that I’ll score lower on CR and W. Will raising my score to 2300 significantly raise my chances at the Ivies?

2320: 780 CR and Writing, 760 Math. Should I retake it (my dad, mom, college advisor, and friends are against it)?

^Steven, forget about it: a 1540 is more than adequate. It wont do you any good;you’ll only look test-obsessed to colleges
