Should I retake the SAT with or without the essay?

Hello. I took the SAT and ACT for the first time this year. I decided not to study for either to see which one I felt better about.

SAT score: 1250 (640 in reading and writing and 610 in math). On the essay, I got a 7 in reading, 6 in analysis, and 6 in writing. FYI, each essay “section” is in a range from 2-8.

ACT score: 25 composite score (25 in English, 26 in math, 26 in reading, and 22 in science. My writing scores are not yet available). According to a few online calculators, my composite score would be equivalent to a 1220 on the SAT.

Obviously I did better on the SAT. In my opinion, it felt easier. But anyways, I would still like to improve my scores for better scholarship/college chances. I did pretty well on the essay because writing/reading has always been my strongest subject. When I retake the SAT, should I take the it with the writing portion again?

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

You have a good essay score.

However, seeing that you’re going to retake the SAT, I’d advise you to retake the essay as well since your scores might increase on that section as well as the others. Also, since you didn’t study for either of them the first time, review a few techniques for the essay and you might even end up with a score of 8/8/8.

Best of luck!

Thanks for the advice!
