Should I retake the SAT?

I have taken the new SAT twice and the old one once, and my best combined score is 2140 (CR-780, M-630, W- 730). I am going to apply to Duke, Wake Forest, and five Ivies. I realize that i will need to get my math and maybe writing scores up in order to be a competitive applicant at Ivy League schools, but I do not know how schools feel about students taking the SAT numerous times. I emailed the Duke admissions office, and they said that they didnt penalize students for taking the SAT numerous times. In fact, they said it could give applicants a bonus because they consider students' highest scores. I just want to know how others feel about this.

Maybe take it ONE more time. You really should get that math score up - but luckily, it's probably the easiest score to get up.

Yeah, I was really disappointed with my math score, but i know that i can bring it up. I just don't want my CR score to go down a lot.

If you're scoring that high in the first place, it probably won't go down that much. And colleges look at composite scores (highest scores in each section from every test) anyway. I think if you're aiming for Ivies, you should retake it to improve the math. More than 3x, though, is too much. Good luck!

Well, I had seen others recommend taking it 3 times or less, and I didnt know if the old SAT would count. If I take the new SAT again, that will make 4 times (counting the old SAT), but without the old SAT, only 3 times. If that makes any sense.

But thanx for the input.

Oh haha. I must have missed that when I read your post. I just thought you had taken the new one twice. Um, I'm really not sure if the old one counts...maybe someone else will know.

I would retakie it only once if you were a junior, there isn't much time left anyway.
