I am thinking about retaking the SAT in January to achieve a better score. On the December test I got: 620 M 580 W 770 CR Essay 8. SS= 1970 Overall, this score is just not good enough and horribly incosistent. I am applying to UVA, WashU, Emory and other top universities so do you think I should retake it?

Thanks in advance for your input!

Call the colleges and ask if they accept January scores- because it's probably too late for most colleges because by the time they recieve your jan scores it would be mid/late feb.

i agree with zenbadabing, but if they do not allow you...your scores are not that bad
remember SAT scores are not everything, what should count and (in most cases it does) is what you did for four YEARS not four HOURS.

Yale accepts January scores, so I know some elite colleges do. Just give them a call and see if they accept them. I was scared to retake mine too, for fear I would score even lower, but my score actually improved 260 points. You never know what will happen. I'd say go for retaking if they let you and send it in.

^^^ WashU and Emory would need higher sat scores to be admitted...
