I'm applying for the Fall 2010 term as a transfer to Cornell, BC, and Bowdoin ( I'm pretty much only going for "reach" schools because I'm at a decent school already and I really can't afford to apply to a ton of schools), and my SAT scores are 730-570-730. That Math score concerns me, as it is quite a bit below the 25% percentile for all of these schools. I had some rather severe math anxiety in high school, so I considered getting even that score a minor miracle (I pretty much laid an egg when I saw that I was in the 81% percentile for my state). I've gotten over the anxiety now that I'm in college, and I'm pretty confident I could bring that score up substantially.

Is it even worth it to retake the SAT now that I am in college? Will the schools get the new scores before the deadline, and will they even care if they do?

(I originally had a longer post typed out for this, but the forum logged me out for some reason when I tried to submit and I lost everything. I can't really be bothered to retype my giant post)

Do you even have time to take the SAT all over again?? As long as you have a good college GPA, ECs, LORs, and Essays you should be fine. They put a little less emphasis on SATs for transfers than for freshmen, especially if you’re a sophomore.
Deadlines are coming really fast so I wouldn’t waste my time studying and taking the SAT.

Yeah, most colleges say the last date they will accept of the SAT is January. There’s really nothing you can do at this point unless your schools have deadlines around April 1 (I know Swarthmore for one does this). But if you’re applying as a junior transfer, the SAT does not have as much weight as does your college record anyways. For a sophomore transfer, your grades in your college math courses will take precedence over the SAT, and it sounds as if you did well in those courses.

If possible I would take it again, it will only improve your chances of getting in.

My high school counselor told me to retake the SAT during the summer after high school and then retake it in college if I didn’t make above a 2150. Top schools still want your scores.

The only problem is that it’s too late for OP to retake because all of his schools have deadlines in March. Unless you decide to apply for Spring 2011 admission (I know Cornell and BC both have these programs), then it’s a waste to retake because they will not be able to consider your scores.
