Hello, I’m a community college student looking to transfer colleges next spring. I’m having trouble deciding whether I should retake the eng 1 class that I got a D in, which I have taken twice already. The first time I took it, I quit going to the class, never withdrew, and got an F. Then, I took a year off from school, tried again, had a horrible teacher, and got a D. I have already received an A in the following English class, but I hate to have this D on my record. Will it look really awful to retake the class AGAIN when I transfer colleges or should I just deal with the D and move on? I have A’s in everything else, so retaking would bring my GPA up to 4.0 if I get an A.
I would probably make a list of the colleges you’re interested in transferring to first and checking their policies on making up classes. Some colleges don’t count class retakes in their GPA calculation, or they may average the the grades of all attempts which would still give you about a C.
Colleges handle class repeats differently. So before you retake it again, check with certain colleges because it’s not worth your time if they don’t count it.
