Should I retake this score?

Should I retake the ACT with this score? I'm hoping to apply to brown and dartmouth.
Composite: 33
English:30
Math: 30
Reading: 35
Science: 36
Essay:7

Math and English are fairly easy to raise with a lot of practice over a period of time. If you think you can do better, of course you should retake.

it depends–how many times have you taken them?
Did you prep alot?
With the right amount of prep, you could easily bump Math to a 36. So, then your composite, rounded, would be a 35. So, yes, you should retake only if the answers to the two prior questions were NO MORE THAN TWO TIMES, AND I PREPPED LITTLE.

It might help, especially because of your essay…you should increase that to a 10-12.
Also, it might be helpful to know that Brown does superscore your ACT…that way, you can keep your 36 science/35 reading (great job!!), but increase your math and english. A 33 is a solid score, which isn’t completely necessary to retake but if you know you can do better on English and math, then go for it!!

It may be worth it to retake if you can go up by even 1 point, if you’re applying to Ivies.

While a 33 is a great score for the Ivy schools, a 34 or even a 35 would, statistically speaking, exponentially increase your chances for admission.

Get that math up; its one of the easier sections to improve on. Improving your essay would help as well.

Agreed.

10char

I would most try to improve your essay score. That’s on the low side, esp. for an Ivy League school.

My guess is that reading the English passages was not what resulted in a lower score than the other sections, given your almost perfect Reading score. When I took the ACT, the main issue I had with the English section was the nit-picky grammar rules. If this is the case for you, it would also help tons to go over those again.

You should definitely retake, as some schools put more weight on the math and English sections rather than the reading and science.

You are lucky, however, because math and English are the easiest sections to improve on.

1- HOW DID YOU GET THAT SCIENCE SCORE!?!?!?
2- TELL ME YOUR SECRET!
3- that is really impressive and i agree; math and English are the most straightforward and easily developed skills. You will blow the next one away if you try.

4- @fresh101, what is wrong with taking these tests more than two or three times? as long as you consistently improve, wouldn’t you show a trend of improvement and help your chances further? I am very curious about this because i am a victim of testing as and apathetic sophomore and not trying on the SAT or ACT and getting low scores while wasting a test date. I am currently sitting on a 32 ACT and 2040 SAT after three tests each, but i only took one of each test (kinda)seriously because, well, I didn’t realize my dream of going to Princeton until recently. I am seriously considering taking both tests an additional time, but i’m scared away by claims like fresh101’s. I do not mean to hijack this thread OP, i just saw an opportunity to bring up the question
So let me know about that!
