Hi,

I'm wondering if I should retake the SAT again... I've taken it twice so far.

March 2011

R: 780
M: 760
W: 650
Overall: 2190

May 2011

R: 700 (-80 from March)
M: 760 (-0)
W: 700 (+50)
Overall: 2140

June 2011

SAT IIs

US Hist: 800
Math II: 770
Chemistry: 780

So this puts my superscore at 2240... but I'd like to get my math score up a little bit considering it stayed the exact same across the two tests. I also think I could get my Math II score up to an 800 with a bit of studying but don't know if its worth the money / hassle.

I'm actually on a college tour right now (in New Haven, CT at the moment...) and after listening to the college reps talk at 3 schools so far (Dartmouth, Harvard, MIT) it seems like as long as you're up around 700-750+ you're in good shape, but I know its important to put best foot forward on application.

As to where I am going to apply:

Looking at... HYPS, UF, UMich, possibly Penn, Duke, Emory

Thanks in advance ^_^

Also to me it’s kind of unusual for my reading score to go down 80 points… thoughts on this?

Your SAT 1 is good, your SAT 2’s are great.
If I were you, I’d focus more on getting good grades to match your test scores, and EC’s.

What about me?

SAT (superscored- over two sittings)

800M
730W
700CR
2230

800 Math2
800 Chem
800 Physics

You should know that those are very good scores, good enough to even get you into an ivy league school. Well, as long as the other parts of your app are just as good.

Thanks for your feedback. I just want to make sure I represent the best of myself on the application… more feedback appreciated :)

Purpender, if you really want to take it again, and really think you have a good shot at improving your math score, then I say go for it. However, three is kind of the unofficial limit: after that, it generally looks bad to take it more times, and your score probably won’t go up significantly after the third time, even with all the studying in the world. If I was in your shoes, I would not take it again, just so I could focus more on my senior year and improving other parts of my application. Then again, I got in with like a 2190. But it’s up to you :)

SheepGetKilled, from your perfect SAT IIs, I’m going to guess that you’re a beast at all things quantitative, which it makes it unlikely that your perfect SAT I math score will go down if you take the SAT again. So you can really only go up in terms of your CR score, which is already pretty good. I wouldn’t retake, but if you think it’s worth your time, then do it. Just remember that SATs are only one factor, and yours are definitely solid enough to get you past that first round of admissions cuts. From there it will be the more subjective parts of your app.

Also for reference: Harvard stats.

SAT (25-75th Percentile)

Total: 2070-2350
Critical Reading: 690-780
Math: 690-790
Writing: 690-780

% Submitting SAT: 96%

Good luck to you both! :)

Haha, throwin those percentile stats at me again. The thing is that 25% of the people have above a 2350 thats kind of intimidating -_-.

I guess that does put me in the average SAT score range you know?
