I am ultimately aiming for a 2400, with or without the composite score. Since only an extremely small group of people obtain full 2400's every year, this would bolster my chances by quite a bit, yes?

As you can see, I only need an 800 in CR to obtain a 2400 with a composite score. This hopefully shouldn't be too difficult.

Not that many people get 2370s either- it’s a fantastic score. Even if you do retake it and get a 2400 (and that’s not guaranteed) it really won’t be a make you or break you factor in college admissions.

That’s a great score. Use the time to polish up your grades and work on other parts of your application, particularly your essay. Admission reps look through thousands of apps, so I’d imagine that your numbers all blur together. Personally, I think what separates the acceptances from the rejects at top schools (which I’m assuming you’re applying to with your amazing score) is the teacher recommendation, awards, and the essay.

I think thats a great point. Although the group of 2400’ers is very small, the group of 2350+ scorers is also extremely small and very prestigious. I wouldn’t slave over getting 30 more points and taking the chance of your other scores going down. Just my opinion though. Anyways congrats on that incredible score.

Your score is amazing, I think you should not retake since there is always the chance that your Math and Writing might go down. Maybe take more subject tests?

"full 2400’s … would bolster my chances by quite a bit, yes? "

No, or at least not in most situations. But what do I know? Folks on CC with better math skills than I seem to say the odds don’t change much between those two numbers.

^Idk… I guess it also depends on the schools you’re looking at. For instance, if someone got a 2260 on his first SAT, I think he should definitely give it one more try to aim for a higher score.

You have to think about it like this: We’re just all highschool students. We all want “tangibles” for college admissions that we can really feel: High scores, perfect grades, etc etc. These won’t hurt you, but ad coms are TRAINED to look beyond that. IE, they’re TRAINED to ignore extremely minor differences in SAT scores and grades. You should train yourself as well.

don’t retake it…you already have 800s in 2 sections, which is amazing!
if you retake it, you might end up with a lower score rather than a higher one so you should consider that as well

Most of these people are not putting it strongly enough. Except for the ego boost of getting a 2400, it makes ZERO difference in anywhere you would apply. And as far as that ego boost, people hate it when others brag about their SAT score, so unless you want to be perceived as a totally conceited jerk, who would you tell? There is no reason to retake this test at all, unless your self-worth is so tied up in this quest you won’t sleep at night. And that would be a sad statement about you indeed, so I am sure it is not true.

OP if you don’t retake it you won’t get in anywhere. Didn’t you know all the top-30 automatically reject everyone with anything under 2500? Now go retake it and get at least a 2400 so you stand a semblance of a chance at the University of Mars.

OP is an idiot. (Unless he/she wants the Presidential Scholarship really badly).

Not gonna lie, I agree with most of the people here. This thread screams: “Oooh, look at me, I got a 2370. Should I 1up myself even more? Life is so difficult! I’m a whole 30 points less than perfect :'[”
