Should I retake?

January SAT score: 800 M, 650 CR, 690 W (2140)
June SAT score: 790 M, 690 CR, 750 W (2230)

I've heard it's bad to retake the SAT too many time, but I really want to get over a 2300. Should I retake it in October? I'll be a senior

What colleges are you looking at?

2230 is a good score and it is in range for most colleges except for the elite ones. I think taking it 3 times is fine but wouldn’t do more than that.

As ClassOf2015HS asked, what colleges do you have in mind? Also test score is only one part of the app, would it be better to study this summer to take the Oct test again? Or would it better to work on your essays? Or would it better to do other activities this summer?

Hard to tell without knowing your whole situation.

This summer I’m doing medical research at UofM and doing my college apps. The colleges I have in mind are UofM and some Ivy Leagues. So taking the SAT 3 times is fine?

The question is whether you can do better. If you can, why not. You will find out by doing more practice tests. 1480/2230 is not a bad score at all, but you may need a little bit higher for better chance at Ivy. It is perfectly fine for UMich though. If you don’t want to take SAT too many times, you may consider taking ACT.
