Should I retake?

I got a 2260 overall on my SATs: 770 reading, 690 math, 800 writing.

I'm concerned about whether or not I should retake. I'm very happy with the overall score, but I'm worried about how much lower my math score is than the other two.

The other thing I'm worried about is that I really don't think I could score much higher on math. That's about my level for math- I mean, next time I could get ten points higher or lower, but is that really worth it?

Is my math score going to be a big strike against me at highly selective colleges and universities? The problem is that I'm not sure I can get it up anyway...does my math score broaden my list of "reaches", though?

depends on what you're majoring in.

if you're majoring in literature/arts/somethin like that, your verbal scores will help you.

if you're majoring in engineering/medicine/anything else other than literature, it'll hurt you.

overall, you have a 1460 CR + M. that is a very strong score.

I would've suggested re-taking if you could get your Math up, but you said 690 is around your peak (I have similar peaks in CR and W); therefore, I wouldn't suggest taking it again. It probably wouldn't help you much at all.

I'd retake for the math--it may only be 10 points, but there is a huge psychological difference between a score in the 600s and the 700s.
