Should I Retake

Some of you will call me stupid and make sarcastic jokes...I know

but seriously

800 math
800 cr
680 writing

should I retake to improve my writing score
will this "unbalanced" score take away from my application

Really it depends. A 2280 is a great score in itself, and a 1600 is actually perfect. So if your target applications are to the number of schools who dont take/count/weigh heavily on the writing, i wouldn't exert anymore effort into the SATs because you have a very good score and there are still other things to focus on. If you want schools where they do count writing you need to make that decision based on how worth it it may be to go down in CR/Math while improving your writing. Tarnishing both 800s may not be worth it....but thats just me.

I have a friend who got comparable scores (800 CR, 770 Math, 690 Writing), and she's taking them again, but only preparing in-depth for the writing.

Then again, it depends on where you're looking. I know that Georgetown completely disregards the writing portion of the SAT, as do some other great schools, but if it would make you more comfortable (and drive up your superscore), I would recommend taking the SATs again.

I agree with previous posters. I, personally, would be afraid to gamble on having the 800s drop. Is the 680 out of the norm for you? Realistically, how much do you think you can improve?

My son was accepted to Yale scea with almost the same scores, your scores are a little higher relax your scores are good enough for any school you want. No one is looking for perfection except the kids on CC

Dec. SAT: 2030
March SAT: 2110

I really want to go to UPenn or Johns Hopkins, but I have some more reasonable colleges on my list too. I feel like i can do a lot better. So should retake the SAT again in May or June or two more times if I don't do well in May or June??

Thanks

thanks everyone for all the advice...im most probably not going to retake it, im fine with my score

and thanks AKITTKA for hacking my thread..lol

i think you should retake it because for UPENN you should atleast break 2200 to be on the safe side

haha sorry .. IMO i don't think you have to retake, but i didn't feel like starting another thread like this because there are SO many haha. but I'm def. going to retake but this is my dilemma:

retake once in either May, June, or October. Possibly do well in either May or June, but possibly bad if i take it in October.

retake twice in either May or June and then again in October if I do average in May/June.

However, I don't really want to take the SATs 4 times because I've heard that looks bad.

Any opinions? Thanks

I'm in a similar situation (800 CR, 770 M, 690 WR) and have decided to retake in May. I know it's not necessary and many schools probably won't care but considering the fact that most schools superscore and the fact that I know I could have done much better, I'm going to retake... Everyone has told me, however, that it probably doesn't make much difference...

are you Guacamolly's friend fhg...lol

AKittka, what's your superscore? ihatesats2 advice (>2200) is pretty good, but if you have >700s in all of your sections then even if it's not over 2200 you probably don't need to retake.

I got essentially the same score as above (800 CR, 770 M, 680 W). I LOVE my CR score but I do believe I can get 800 M (I think I got a 5 on AIME -- if you know what that is), and I think of all the sections, Writing is the easiest to improve (by studying grammar, etc.) What do all of you think?

apathy: my superscore is 660 CR 690 M 760 W = 2110 which was all in one sitting.. I've taken the SATs twice and I'm taking it again .. but should i take it two more times if I don't do better in May/June or just take it one more time and wait until October? that's my question. I'm looking at some pretty good schools and I know my SATs bring me down so I feel like this is a big decision.

thanks

upton ur in the same boat as me

I believe there comes a point where it does not really matter how much higher your sat score gets. like what I mean is that colleges will still be pleased with that score
and that score is a 2250+
with that score I believe one can "pass" the SAT portion of the application for any college so upton I wouldn't take it again...but it all depends on you
