I got a 2340 on the June SAT, but my math score is pretty bad (740). I'm probably going to be applying for computer science at some top CS schools (i.e. Stanford, Berkeley, CMU) and I'm wondering if this will be a problem for me. Also, will an 800 on Math II and a 5 on BC Calculus offset this at all? Thanks.

are we supposed to take this seriously?

Sorry, but I’m being dead serious here. I feel like I could do better, but I’m not sure it’s worth the risk that I’ll lose my 800s in Writing and Critical Reading.

Colleges would think you were a prick to retake a 2340. I know I would. Let it go and focus on other parts of the application.

sigh…another example of how CC ruins the sanity of people.

im sorry but i actually agree with roneil. colleges definitely believe that your score on a standardized test backs up your grades in your class. for example, if you get straight A’s in your class but score a 1 on the AP and a 400 on the SAT then they will think you didn;t really deserve that A. however, in this case it seem that you did score a 5 on the ap and that counts for a lot. a 2340 is an unbelievable score. i cannot tell you what you should do though. the most important thing is that you are comfortable with your own score.

Another self-congratulatory thread? I think so.

Yeah, I’ve been debating the same thing, but I think the Math II and AP BC scores compensate. Retaking would simply make you seem desperate because it makes it seem as if your entire application is built upon that and like you have no other aspects to your application to back you up.

So… don’t. (:

@okaythen - Exactly, an 800 on Math Level II and a 5 on the AP exam “back up” his grades; a 740 SAT math doesn’t leave anything to be desired.
