Should I sabotage my writing supplements for Ivy+S? Please advise.

I was in a similar situation. My parents are immigrants, and really wanted me to go to Harvard, MIT, Stanford, Yale, or Princeton. They didn’t care what other schools I applied to except for these 5. The thing is, outside of Stanford, and maybe a little of Princeton, I had little to no desire to apply to any of these schools, let alone attend. They aren’t completely ignorant on the college search, but what they don’t realize is that there are great schools in this country that they had never heard of, and that are better than these schools for what I want to major in; Duke, NU, Vanderbilt, UPenn, Rice, Columbia, GaTech (along with Stanford) were schools that I were truly interested in, and all had just as good or better Biomed Eng. programs than HYPM. They were also highly prestigious Universities that are world renowned. However, being foreigners, they were a little ignorant when it came to college quality(shoot, their are PEOPLE IN THIS COUNTRY that have never heard of CMU, Washington U., CalTech, or UChicago), all they ever heard about were HYPSM, and they thought every other school was a step below (even though they were just as good or better, and most of all, would have been drastically better fits for me). Shoot, they had never even heard of NU, UPenn, or Columbia until I introduced it to them, and had only heard of Duke because of basketball.

At the end of the day, I applied to the schools that I wanted to apply to. Yes, my parents were a little hurt that I didn’t really consider their opinion in the app process, but at the end of the day, I will be attending the schools, NOT THEM, and I’d hate to be stuck at a school that I didn’t want to be at.
