I've been thinking of studying AP Biology from now until May. The reason is because with my schedule next year, I won't have any room for it and I still would like to take it.

So is it possible to self-study it from now until May, or is it too short of a time to self-study?

And, also, how should I self-study it? I've heard that I could self-study it out of the Cliffs book, but is there anything else I can do as well?

self-study is better than classroom teaching. The reason being is that the classroom based style requires lots of extra work that you normally don’t need to do. When you self-study you only study the stuff you need to know for the test.

^Sure, if you had only one choice between self-studying and classroom teaching, the former would be better but classroom teaching + self-studying = doubleplusgood.

Buy a prep book and possible a Campbell’s Textbook (International Edition if you can, they are extra cheap ^^ but exactly the same w/o the hardcover) and go over it. You’ll have time to self-study if your schedule isn’t too demanding as it is.

Personally, I think self-studying in itself is better if you have a horrible teacher. Horrible teachers not only affect your learning but your grade as well. Whereas if you have an awesome teacher, or know a teacher with an awesome reputation, take his/her class.

Haha, Mr. Wheezy, we’ve only had a total of 2 teachers that taught AP Bio and only 1 teaches currently; the other got removed from teaching it since none of his students scored above a 1 on the exam last year.
From what I’ve heard from current students, the current AP Bio teacher is not good and the class is “impossible”. So looks like I’ll be self-studying then lol.

noaveragegenius: true, I guess it really depends on the teacher. Some teachers (like mine) will add in a bunch of extra work that you don’t need to do to preform well on the exam. If the teacher gives you released exams and lots of information regarding the exam then it is good.

Hahaha I’m in the same situation. I go to an international school so I have only one teacher per subject… My AP biology class is impossible because he doesn’t teach and gives us mini-AP-tests for exams worth 40% of our grade. He says we’re in “college” now. We couldn’t do any of the labs properly because he messed up the reagent so we’re left savaging something like catalase out of potatoes and ****. Ridiculous.

I should’ve self-studied that class. Maybe then my grade wouldn’t be so bad. But then again, all of my school’s AP classes are like this except for APWH. So I really envy people with good AP teachers.
