Should I self-study AP Euro along with APWH or APUSH?

This upcoming school year I will be a sophomore and will be taking APWH. Junior year I will be taking APUSH. I would like some of the CCers opinions on whether I should self-study AP Euro while I am taking the APWH class or when I am taking the APUSH class. Because while reading through many threads there are many mixed answer saying “AP Euro is a good self-study choice because it overlaps APWH” or “Take the AP Euro exam with APUSH because they go well together”. So can you guys give me a good plan for self-studying AP Euro? Thanks.

Also, I wouldn’t mind giving recommendations on good study books for AP Euro and APWH. I plan on using PR and/or Barron’s (I haven’t decided yet) + Peterson’s Practice Tests + World Civilizations: The Global Experience 5th Ed. for APWH, but I don’t know any good books for AP Euro so please post some recommendations and your success with those books.

Thanks so much guys, this is my first thread for advice so I’m hoping for some good feedback. ^_^

AP Euro and APUSH don’t go well together. APUSH is focused solely on American history and it’s covered in depth, whereas AP Euro covers European History from the Renaissance onwards and it’s more of understanding the broad context. The only time where they overlap is the world wars and a tiny bit of the Enlightenment. I assure you that the L’Belle Epoch of Europe has little to do with the Gilded Age even though both were at basically the same time.

APEH and APWH are a good overlap. They cover a lot of similar things, and that’s manageable. I suggest using the CliffsAP European History book for Euro. I used it and got a 5. For APUSH, use AMSCO’s book along with Crash Course by REA for APUSH. I used both and got a 5 on that. I’ve never taken world but I heard PR is good for that one. Good luck.

Thanks. I think I’ll try and manage AP Euro with AP World even though I hear World is the hardest, but hopefully I’ll pull through. If there is anyone else with book suggestions and your success please post. Thanks again!

I’m looking at this from the amount of work perspective. Since you’re a sophomore I would suggest Euro+World. Junior year is going to be your toughest year with SATs, maintaining good grades, etc. So don’t make it even more painful by adding in Euro that year.

Euro+World. It would be easier since there are the overlaps. Moreover, if you self-study Euro while taking APUSH, you might have both exams on the same day as the previous years. Therefore, it’s better to have two exams on different day, so APWH+APE.

Self-studying APWH/APEH, and I will support that taking one while self-studying the other is a great idea. So far, I haven’t read a single post-1450 EH chapter for APWH, and from practice questions, I’ll ace the Euro part.
APEH also talks about stuff like imperialism, the Cold War, and de-colonization, all of which go great with AP World.

But I warn you: DON’T think you can study a bit before the Euro test and think you can wing it with your world history background.

I self-studied Euro with World last year and it worked really well. I’m taking US this year and it would not go with it at all. Almost nothing would be related, the world war1,2/cold war things don’t really go together as much as you would think.
