I am applying to a school that “strongly suggests” 2-3 subject test scores as part of the application. I took the literature and US history tests, scoring 800 and 610, respectively. My ACT scores are fairly good (36 Eng., 28 Math, 34 Reading, 29 Science). I don’t have time to take any more subject tests, so my question is, should I send the college my history score? A 610 is 14 points below average, so I’m afraid that it will reflect poorly on my otherwise decent application. On the flip side, sending only one subject test when more are suggested might look bad, too. Please help!!!
^^It might help to note that I’m hoping to major in International Relations.
Just 14 points? In that case you’ll probably be fine. If you were applying to an ivy caliber school, it would definitely diminish your chances significantly. Good luck
If OP is applying to a college that strongly suggests 2-3 SAT 2 scores, it probably IS an Ivy-caliber school. I wouldn’t send a 610 to an Ivy caliber school.
Check to see if the school recommends subject tests for students submitting ACT scores. Many schools require the SAT or ACT and recommend the subject tests for students submitting the SAT. If the school is very selective (not just Ivy level) I would submit the 800 but not the 610.
Percentiles don’t tell the whole story on subject tests but scores below 700 should not be submitted if it is not required.
I wouldn’t send a 610- I have heard numerous times you want to send scores over a 700.
I’ve decided not to submit the history score and hope for the best. Thanks, everybody!
