I've been playing piano for about three years, and I was considering sending a supplemental recording, but would anything less than spectacular just be wasteful? I still face some technical difficulties, so I'd probably send an abridged version of an extremely difficult (at least for me) Chopin Nocturne. The segment I would send is not very technically difficult, but it is gorgeously slow and musical. my question is, is it even worth it for someone of my level to submit a supplement?

yea i don't think you should send it unless you are at a significant talent level otherwise it doesn't help you much. most of the CDs that are tagged with applicants having extensive music awards and such on their app are fowarded to music dept(from what my interviewer told me on campus) and there they make recommendations.

yea my teacher told me that unless i was willing to spend at least 500 bucks in a professional place recording my piece, dont bother cuz its not gonna do anything. so i ended up doing it with some guy who got a grammy for music recording, and shelled out like a bunch of money for 10 min of music.

nanaijuh, because many of my performances were recorded by third party groups, i just used their recordings from their audio files. sound good though. hey are you applying to julliard? i got in last year: the actual app process isn't bad, and with a carnegie performance under your belt you could make it. what styles are your strengths? i focus more on the chopin/ravel/rachmaninoff type music.

u got into juilliard....jaw drops.....
thats amazing, how come u didnt go? and i dont wanna apply there(and i def wouldnt get in), prob because i dont know if i wanna make music my life. I mean, i love it and all, but i think a double major is prob the most i'd go with music.

i love all the composers u mentioned, first concerto ever played was the ravel one, rachmaninoff's preludes are amazing. right now im on liszt's 3 years pilgrimage thingy--annees des pelerinage, u familiar with them? and a brahms concerto. i looooove bramhs.

app to the columbia/juilliard program. you get to do both. i tried last year, but i didn't get columbia, but they hold the juilliard acceptance. try it. yeah i'm familiar with the lizst. i just played rach 2 with a subsidiary of the houston symp.
