SHOULD I SEND BAD SAT SCORES?

I gave my first SAT this November and got 1790. For me, its quite bad.. Is it fine if I don't send it?( I will definitely be giving SAT again to score better.) Or should I send my score however bad it is? Will it affect my college admission application? Please help

Depends:

 1. A number of colleges require you to send all SAT tests you have taken and thus you must send it if applying to one of those. Thus, check what the colleges require.

You do not say when you are taking the test again. If you are applying for college entry in Fall 2015, you need to check each college to which you intend to apply to determine the last test accepted. Some want all testing completed by the Nov test date and thus you would have to send the Nov score to those. A large number require completion by the Dec test date and if you are not taking another test before Jan, you have to send the Nov score to those. Many other collegesw accept through the Jan test so you may have until then to take the test for those.

Even if the college allows you to withhold the test when ordering tests sent through College Board, you may accomplish nothing by exercising score choice with CB. Many high schools in the US put all your scores on the offical high school transcript they send to colleges. Thus, you should check what your high school does since withholding a score through College Board may be pointless except to prove you tried to withhold a score when the college gets your transcript.

In any event, be aware that all colleges claim they do not hold lower scores against you if you send multiple tests. In that situation many use the highest section scores from the multiple tests to determine admission and others use that test with the highest composite to determine admission. Thus, if you believe the colleges (and many have a difficult time doing that), you should not be harmed by sending all test scores.

Thanks a lot for answering…I’m an international student, so the high school transcript won’t reveal my SAT score… In case there is a university that requires all scores ,for example, then can I send my first SAT score along with the latest one? Or by then will it be too late to send my November scores?

That just raises the same issue I mentioned in point 2 above – you can just send them after taking another test if that later test is itself timely for admission.
