I'm not positive if this is the right place for this thread, but bear with me.

I've taken 2 ACTs, I got a 31 composite on the first (34 E, 31 M, 28 R, 32 S) and a 32 on the second (33 E, 35 M, 24 R, 35 S). I'm not sure if I should only send the test with the higher composite or if I should send both. I know colleges don't superscore ACTs usually, but maybe seeing the 28 on reading would make up for the even worse 24? Or do they rarely even look/care about individual sections? I've heard different "theories" about the ACT; 1 is that colleges only look at composite, and the other is that they mainly look at Math and English.

Basically, what I'm asking is, will the low reading score hurt my chances more than the higher composite score will boost them? Should I bother sending my first ACT?

Some schools do superscore for admission and or scholarship. You can google for the list and or search old threads. You can try asking the colleges you are applying if they superscore - although I’m not sure all say if they do.

Definitely send both! There is no downside.

Both of your “theories” are correct. Different schools have different policies. You will need to check with each admissions office to determine how they handle the scores.

My son has a similar situation and is planning on sending in both.

Question:

When you send in 2 ACT scores, what does a school that does not superscore do with them? Do they decide on their own which one to use and disregard the other?
