Should I send in ACT or SAT scores?

I'm a senior, currently applying to colleges and about to send out my ACT/SAT scores. I have taken the SAT once, and got a 2370 (800M, 800W, 770 CR). I also took the ACT twice, once as a requirement at my school. I got 34 both times, but my section scores are all over the place (1st time: 35E, 36M, 28R, 35S; 2nd time: 35E, 34M, 35R, 32S). Since my SAT score is higher, that's the one I'm planning to send to most colleges. However, I'm also applying to University of Michigan, and they know that all kids at my school were required to take the ACT. Would they find it weird if I don't send in the ACT, or will they not care? So, my question is, for U of M, should I only send in the SAT or both?

Your SAT score is much better than ACT. Not only in percentile, but also in the distribution of scores. Also, UMich does not require SAT2, so you can send just SAT1 score in. It would not hurt if you send both ACT and SAT in though. If you do, your second ACT is better because of the distribution.

Thanks for the response. I’m not sure about the second ACT. Sure, the distribution is more even, but I didn’t do too well on math and especially science. I get that it’s still above the UM average, but I’m applying for engineering, and I think that the math and science scores will be pretty important. On the other hand, on my first test, I got 36 on math and 35 on science, and only failed reading which probably isn’t as important.

Remember, the ACT score is optional since your SAT is so good. If you do want to submit ACT, the second ACT will look be slightly better as you have all sections above 30 (actually above 32). Anyway, I really don’t see the need to send in the ACT score as your SAT is equivalent to 35+.

Alright, thanks! I think I’ll just send in the SAT then.
