I'm a really private person (extrovert, sure, but I have extreme introvert moments). So if possible, I'd really love to land a single room, and I heard that the earlier you apply, the likelier you'll get put into rooms you prefer the most.

But I'm still not sure whether I'll be attending UCLA. Should I just send in my Housing App anyway? I'm asking because it's $30 and non-refundable, and money is super tight at the moment.

I do not believe submitting the housing application earlier lands you a more preferable room, as long as you are within the application deadline. If it’s still the same as it was in 2010, I think your chances will be the same even if you submit later, but before the deadline.

That’s good (and technically bad, haha) to hear. Thanks for the speedy reply.

Worst case scenario, if I’m still nervous about it, I can just ask them directly or scour through the Housing FAQs.

College is about trying new things and getting out of your comfort zone. Go get a random roommate!

When my son was a freshman, and I assume it is the same, housing was a lottery and it did not matter when you submitted. As a mom, I like to recommend everyone have the typical dorm room experience first year. I think housing is predominantly doubles and triples, with most freshman getting triples, so you might resign yourself to that.
