I’m currently doubling up in math, taking both AP Statistics and Pre-Calc Honors, but my math score on the SAT is admittedly weak. I scored a 670 in CR, a 680 in Writing, but only a 530 in Math (I’m not the greatest test taker). I’m in the top 6% of my class, I have taken 7 AP classes thus far, in addition to many other honors classes, and am actively involved/have leadership positions in several clubs. Should I apply the test-optional route?
I would suggest applyimg test optional. I was told by a well known college consultant, who wrote several books and was on Oprah, to only send scores to test optional schools that are above the average and preferably in the top 25%. My DS recently graduated from Loyola and has a wonderful job. He was not happy with his SAT scores and applied test optional (the first test optional year for Loyola). He did well on his last SAT and sent that score anyway. He did attend on a Presidential Scholarship and completed the Honors Program.
You may want to try the ACT. Loyola will superscore both the SAT and ACT. They may even take the highest section from each test if you take both. You may want to call Admissions to make sure.
Loyola was a wonderful choice for my son. I really like the Jesuit schools. Loyola is truly a special place.
Good luck.
I don’t think you’d be putting yourself in any risk by going test optional. My daughter (LUM2014, same as funfatdaddy?) planned to apply test optional because of her low SAT math score. She ended up including scores because her ACT was much stronger (one less essay to write). Loyola, being Jesuit, really looks at the whole person in admission decisions. I think applying test optional may be the way to go. You may even qualify for a Presidential Scholarship based on your grades.
