Hi! I'm a rising junior and photography is a hobby of mine. I would like to show adcoms this passion. However, I don't know if I should send in my photos when I apply because I'm not professional or even semi-professional. I take photos of nature(animals, landscapes). Do you think it would be safe to send in photos along with my apps(especially to the top colleges), or do you think I should avoid it?Thanks!

slides if anything

I personally don't see what is so difficult about photography though. I could never paint/draw a lot of the art that i see, but any kid could go out with a camera, snap a few pictures and claim that he is a photographer. It's not that hard with such an opinion-based skill.

I actually had the same question, but most of them suggested that if you weren't planning on pursuing it in college then it wouldn't be worth sending it. I'm an amateur, but have taken some pretty good photos.

Hawkphoenix - do you have any EC advice for me?

Please help. thanks

1MX - Photography is harder than you think. If you use a traditional 35mm, you have to develop the prints, consider lighting, exposure, composistion. It's much different than point and shoot or even digital..

If you are really good at photography, then send a portfolio.

Otherwise, no.

Go for it! I know most schools gladly look at art supplements

I was also wondering if anyone knew, would sending in a portfolio of articles I've written for my school paper be advisable? I'm an editor and I've written some decent articles and I'd like to showcase that...but would it just be extra uneeded baggage? I plan to continue writing for my college newspaper but I don't think I'll major in Journalism...

A SMALL portfolio - just a couple of your best articles - I'd say 3 tops. Ad coms just don't have time to read a ton of stuff. But yes, go ahead and submit your best stuff (photos too - perhaps on a Disc?). Anything to make you stand out and show your passion.

Well I would suggest sending them in if they are good. There is a girl on Dartmouth forum who sent in the photographs, it actually strengthened her application.
