should i send in this extra rec or not

Hi, I just hav this question...I already sent in 3 teachers rec.....i was stupid..should have asked 2 teachers....anyway 3 are alraedy in.....and now...this guy who i used to work for at an organization (one under UN charter) which I worked as a webmaster wrote me an absolutely amazing rec..it really tells about me..however,having 3 recs already in...should i send that one too? will they read that one at all?

bump bnumppp

No....don't do it.

Sounds like this rec tells a very different side of you than what the teachers may be telling. Not just because it may be more positive about you but it tells of your success and the respect you garnered in an area the teachers would not be able to talk to with much personal knowledge. If that is really the case, then send it in unless the school specifically states not to send more than 3 recs.

If, on the other hand, it is just more glowing and doesn't add a new dimension to who you are, you may decide not to send it. Unless the school strongly discourages more than 2 or 3 recs, the worse that will hapen is they will ignore it or maybe better for you choose to ignore one of the teacher recs.

if you go to a major mprep school< why would you get advice here instead of a college counselor?

i m just asking for second opinion....u think i can call the school and ask them to arrange my recs in the order that i want them to be read(they wont discard one of the teacher recs for me) and i dont want them to randomly disregard one of the teacher recs becoz 2 out of the 3 are very good

No, do not call them about your recs. First, more than one person reads the file so no telling what order the file will remain in. Secondly, the admissions staff doesn't have time to refile each individual application file according to the individual wishes of the applicants. The recs are there and they are going to read them and assign value to them according to their own rules. Nothing you can do about that now.

Quit worrying about what the admissions staff currently has and determine if this rec will add to their picture of you or not. You need to decide if you want to send the additional rec or not and be done with it.
