Sooo I've been wondering if I should send this recording I have of me and my friends playing a piece (Mozart's flute quartet). The Pomona app states specifically to send in a solo performance, but I don't have any. Do you think if I send in the ensemble piece, it'll go against me?

Nothing will go against you. While they probably prefer a solo piece, anything to show your music I'm sure is fine.

I would definitely still send it in, but maybe someone else who sent in music would know better.

If your part can be differentiated from the others, then by all means send it, along with a note that tells the evaluator how to identify your playing from all the rest (since the purpose of sending in a Music Supplement is, after all, to have your musical skills showcased and evaluated). But since it's a flute quartet, is it likely that your part can always be singled out? You're probably in the best position to answer that.

When a solo performance is requested, it need not actually be a recording of a performance. You can make a tape of yourself playing a solo piece right in your living room.

I would only send in the Mozart if you are the flutist. If you're a serious enough musician to want your musical talent considered for college admission, you should also be able to record some solo music to send along with it.

You have nothing to lose by sending in the quartet by itself, but you are unlikely to gain anything, either.
