I am planning on applying RD Comp sci/Econ to Northeastern, and my question is whether to go test optional or send my score. My Act score is 32 composite, with 35’s in Math and Reading and 30 in science and 29 in writing.
I know my score isn’t even in the bottom quartile, but I have heard Northeastern skews their test scores.
My gpa is 3.83 uw, with 9 Ap’s taken and decent Ecs.
Will going test optional help or hurt me?
Tough to make a recommendation in a vacuum. What is your uwGPA, core courses only? What are your AP test scores? I do lean toward submitting because of the high math and reading scores (arguably the most important subsections).
I agree with @Mwfan1921 it’s below the 33 mean…they don’t show median. Actually 33 is a 1467 SAT conversion. And CS is tough. But Northeastern RD is brutal and showing you are in range vs others who go TO…worth a shot.
NEU is tough RD so …if you’re good with it go for it. I don’t think it will be the reason you do or don’t get in.
If I calculated it right,it is 3.7 and my AP scores are 5 in AP Gov, AP Micro and Macro, 4 in Apush, and this year I am taking AP Physics C, AP Calc AB and AP CSA. Thanks for your help.
In your opening statement you put 3.83 gpa
Either way NEU is a reach RD. But good luck to you !!
The 3.7 if I calculated it correctly is my uw GPA core classes only.
Where do people see and ACT mean of 33? I only saw a range of 33-35 for 2020 admitted students (though they acknowledge that half didn’t submit scores)…I’m on the fence about whether to submit my 33 for ED2…
I think that is from past years.
Agree on the test scores…from the 2020-21 CDS the mid 50% range is 33-35, so median around 34. https://provost.northeastern.edu/uds/facts/common-data-set/
I took from here. Looking at it it’s 2020. The sat is 1467. I just converted it. I didn’t look at the CDS.
CS is tough. NEU is an ED/EA school so your odds are not great…just being honest. Your score is below where it needs to be but the 35 math stands out. In the normal time of being under the 50th percentile it’s be a no. But given the math score is high and you are CS it might be worthwhile.
I think it’s a neutral personally. I’d say your odds are 10% and I don’t think the score will be the determinant of out (but maybe in)…I doubt it but maybe ??
