I'm sending all my scores to schools soon, and since they're expensive I'm trying to limit the number I send. I got a 2270 on the SAT (790 CR, 740 W, 740 M) and two 790s on subject tests, so I'm definitely sending those in. I also took the ACT and got a 34, which is basically equivalent to my 2270 (36 English, 35 reading, 34 science, 32 math). Should I bother paying the extra money for the ACT? If it'll give me an advantage in any section, I will, but if it won't then there's no point.

Depends on school. Generally speaking, East Coast privates love the ACT better.
Sending both would be your best choice.
Good luck!

Unless your writing score on the ACT is significantly higher than the SAT, then sending one is probably fine. Unless a college specifically states that it prefers one test over another, it will not matter. Also, if you self-report the ACT scores on the CommonApp (or if they are on your official transcript) the school still might consider them without having to send the official scores from the company (depending on the school, of course).

Find out which schools like which test. My kid’s school stated on their web site that they “prefer” the ACT. So we sent that in to them and did not send in the SAT. With the UC’s we sent in both plus the subject tests. Case by case really…
