I keep hearing that AP Scores don't factor into admissions and that you should send them in after you get accepted. Thing is, I'm really proud of my AP scores. I got 5s on the 5 tests I took: US Gov, US History, World History, English Comp., and Spanish (this one especially, I'm not a native speaker). This may not seem like much to all you CCers but it's the most rigorous courseload at my NYC public school.

I feel like these scores, as well as the AP Scholar with Distinction Award I got, would be a real strongpoint on my app. I will be applying to a few Ivies and selective schools. Should I shell out some extra cash and send them to each school? I know I can self-report them but I feel that adcoms don't give this much weight. Who's to stop every applicant from saying they got 5s on every AP they took?

I think a lot of schools recommend that you send the actual test scores. I’m applying to some of the most selective liberal arts colleges, and generally speaking, many of them request that you send AP and Subject Test scores directly from the testing agency.

Yes, both need to be sent as Official Score reports from the testing agency. Yes, SAT scores must be sent with the application. No, AP scores only need to be sent to the school where you matriculate.

Dev, please give links to the schools that either ‘recommend’ or ‘request’ Official AP scores to be sent with the application. I’ve never heard of one but am always up for learning something new.
