Should I send a 780 on Spanish and a 690 on Math 2 to Dartmouth? I know, they’re really bad scores; I’m just not a good test taker
Does “Optional” really mean “Required” for Dartmouth?

If Dartmouth has score choice then just send your Spanish score. I don’t think sending the Math 2 would do you any good. I think if Dartmouth says optional and not recommended then I think they mean it. I don’t think you should give them a reason not to accept you.
@yerin2021 Thank you! But it is recommended that you send TWO Subject Tests, so I’m guessing I would have to send either all or none of my scores. Also, if I only send one, they might imply I did poorly on the other SAT IIs-- if I don’t send any, they might imply I just didn’t take them. Am I right?
@geisel1797 I guess that is true. I am actually in the same situation rn for Harvard. I got a 680 M2 and a 760 Bio-M. I think I’ll just send my Bio. I can’t stand the thought of Harvard admissions officers having a 680 on me. Plus I don’t think that they would judge you on implications that your submission of 1 SAT II might have. Tbh just do what you think is best. Don’t send if you think you will regret it. Plus if sending none is an option, why can’t sending just one be an option? Good luck to us on apps. See you at a Harvard-Dartmouth game in a year!!!
Are you seriously saying a 780 in Spanish is a “really bad score?”
@yerin2021 Thank you! And yes, see you ;)!
@mjrube94 No, I’m saying a 690 on Math II is a really bad score.
It’s not a “really bad” score, in fact I think it is an average score, literally.
Dartmouth does say it has a holistic perspective, but it does care about test scores. The 780 is good for Dartmouth, but not the 690. In general, you should be sending scores that are 750 or above.
@b1ggreenca Well, really bad considering a 690 puts me in the 43rd percentile :/.
@poprocket Would you recommend me to only send the 780 then?
I scored a 1940 on the Old SAT which is on the lower end of must schools I’m applying to so I’m thinking that submitting my scores of 710 on US History and 680 on Math 2 will help but idk?? The schools don’t require subject tests so idk if it will hurt my app if I submit them
@nspara Well, I DID end up submitting my 690 on Math II and 780 on Spanish… AND I GOT IN! Dartmouth truly is holistic, and they will not reject you simply because your scores are on the “lower” end of the spectrum. My scores were WAY below the 25th percentile (1290, which translates to about an 1800 on the old SAT), and look where I’m headed to next fall! Make your application shine! Good luck in your college application process!
@geisel1797 Congratulations on your acceptance! If it isn’t too much to ask, what would you say was the best part of your application?
@danielleq Thank you! And well, I am not too sure if there was ONE true aspect of my application that really stood out; rather, I believe that being a Hispanic valedictorian who wrote a really unique and personal essay really helped!
I got in RD even though I sent Dartmouth a 670 and I’m completely unhooked!
