Should I send my SAT score?

I'm a rising senior applying to college this year, and I've decided I'm done with standardized tests. I took the SAT once and scored a 2060, 1410 CR+M. I have a 33 on my ACT. Should I send my SAT? I feel like my CR+M score is decent and worth sending, but I'm afraid the overall 2060 will hurt me. I'm planning to apply to a couple selective schools like Northwestern and University of Michigan. Any advice?

It’s very respectable, not question, but Northwest and UM would prefer a higher score, I suspect. Your ACT seems better, why not send that instead?

Agreed. Just send the ACT.

@zzzmmm @skieurope‌ I am going to send my ACT. I should rephrase my question: should I send both or just the ACT?

No, just send the ACT.

agree.

Thanks for the advice!

If you are sending in SAT2 as well, you don’t really to hide SAT1. If you are not submitting SAT2, you can save the money and just submit ACT. I think Northwestern does require SAT2 though. Certain program would even require 3 specific SAT2 scores. The schools would generally look at the better scores from your submission. You know there are many reasons one may blow a test, but there is only one reason to score it high.

@billcsho‌ I took SAT II but I’m not going to send them due to the lower scores. Northwestern recommends but does not require. Hopefully I will be okay with just the ACT.

I’m not sure about Northwestern specifically, but generally if a college “recommends” it, it will be to your advantage to heed their advice. On the other hand, some are perfectly ok with just the ACT. Have you looked at possible subject tests at all? You may find that you are strong in a subject and it will be to your advantage to take one or two that you are good at. It will help separate you from the crowd

@shawnspencer‌ I took two subject tests in June and didn’t do very well. I’m pretty sure the scores will hurt me, if anything. I’m applying ED with a Nov. 1 deadline, and I know I could probably take October 11, but I’m afraid to cut it that close. I’m also worried that I will perform poorly again. Kind of stuck here.

@billcsho‌ Sorry this is so delayed, but what do you mean by “If you are sending in SAT2 as well, you don’t really to hide SAT1”? Because I am most likely going to be sending SAT2 scores.

@Shawnspencer: a bulk of NU admits are from the midwest – where very few people take SAT2s. I think we can take their word on it.

@bamboo17 CR+M 1410 is not bad although your ACT at 33 is better. Schools will look at your better score anyway so you don’t really need to hide it. If you are submitting SAT2 scores, SAT1 scores will be included unless you specify to exclude.
