Should I send my SAT subject test scores?

Hi! I’m applying early decision to Duke (deadline is November 1st) and have to decide whether or not it’s worth it to send my SAT subject scores. My ACT score is a 36.

Duke requires either the ACT w/ writing, OR the SAT w/ 2 subject tests strongly recommended. Therefore, it doesn’t even recommend that an applicant submit SAT subject test scores if they are submitting the ACT, but I know that quite a few people in my grade do this anyway.

Literature: 770
School’s midrange: 650 - 740
Bio M: 740
School’s midrange: 610 - 700

Also, I specified on my application that I am highly interested in pursuing environmental science as a major.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated  My counselor previously told me not to submit at all unless they were above midrange, but I’m not sure if it would be beneficial or just serve to weaken my application.

Just curious, where are you getting those range #s from? Is that Duke’s middle 50%? Is there a source?

I would definitely send them. Excellent scores, esp literature one.

Oh no, that’s my high school’s midrange, forgot to specify that!

It probably doesn’t matter that much. The subject test scores don’t stand out like the 36 ACT, but they are very good and shouldn’t hurt your chances.

My limited experience: one daughter submitted subject test scores, and one didn’t even take subject tests; both were admitted RD.

Regardless of your decision, your test scores are fine; focus on the rest of the application. Good luck.
