So I had originally planned on only sending my pretty awesome ACT w/ writing scores (34!!!) but I accidentally sent my not-so-awesome SAT scores to Brown. I got a 2060, which is good, but not great, I guess. After that, I figured I had to take the subject tests since I had already sent the SAT reasoning. I didn’t do so hot - I got a 710 on both of my subject tests. I remember reading something that said black males often perform worse on the SAT which I thought was BS at the time, but now I’m starting to think it’s true considering I struggle in anything with SAT in the name My question is do I have to send my subject tests now? I know Brown accepts the ACT writing in lieu of the subject tests, but would it be okay if I didn’t send my subject tests because they already have my ACT writing? Or do I have to send my subject tests now since I already accidentally sent my SAT 1? I could retake either the SAT I or SAT II in October, but not both. These tests are crazy expensive and I can only afford to take one. I’m also applying ED so I don’t really have time. I would rather not have to send my subject tests or retake, but I will if I have to. I know this question is kind of confusing so I’ll try to pare it down: Am I required to send my subject tests to Brown since they already have my SAT I, or do I not have to since they already have my ACT w/ writing? I just want to make sure I won’t be hurt by not sending my subject tests. My hope is that my ACT w/ writing will take the place of the SAT/Subject Tests. Thank you all in advance for you help!
As long as you send your ACT with writing, you don’t need to send in anything else.
You are fine with just the ACT. Congratulations on a great score!
Thanks so much to you both! Thanks for the peace of mind (and the money I’m going to save by not having to take that darn test again)
No, you don’t need to send Subject Tests. I would suggest you apply ED as well if you can if Brown is your dream school
You don’t need to send subject tests, but I would really pose this question to the admissions people at Brown. Also, if you don’t want them to see your SAT score, maybe ask if they can disregard/delete them?
Also, a 34 ACT is pretty damn good. If you apply ED, I would be willing to bet money that you get in. Test scores that strong, URM status and the extra kick that ED gives should pretty much make you a shoe-in.
Dressington, please don’t encourage false hopes. And I strongly suggest you avoid gambling. According to Brown (https://www.brown.edu/admission/undergraduate/explore/admission-facts), 10% of students with an ACT score of 33-35 were admitted – which means 90% were denied. So the OP is not a shoe-in.
I’ll add to the chorus that you don’t need to sent the subject tests. Good luck!
