I'm a high school senior applying early action to Yale. I got a 35 on the ACT my first time, and just sent that to Yale. The SATs didn't go as well...first time I got

CR 710
M 720
W 800

2230/2400

and the second time I got

CR 790
M 650
W 780

2220/2400

my superscore is 2310. So that's alright but I absolutely bombed my SAT IIs. I got 750 on US History, which is fine, but 700 on Chemistry and 690 on Latin...yikes. Those are just below the 70th percentile. Especially bad because I'm selling myself as a science whiz and language lover (I am, I swear, I just choked on test day!) And I have no time to retake them for early action.

Yale doesn't use score choice...I think that means if I send my SATs, I have to send my SAT IIs as well. So...is it worth it to send Yale my 2310 superscore if it means they'll also see my crappy SAT IIs? Will the SAT IIs have such a negative weight as to negate my SAT? Should I only send my ACT? (ACT: math 33, science 35, reading 36, writing 36)

Hmm, that is a predicament. I think Yale will understand that how someone does on a test doesn’t always reflect their true abilities. So if you showed passion for Latin and Science in other parts of your application…you should be fine! If it bothers you, i would take them again.

^^^ The bias you are referring, which did exist 5 to 10 years ago, no longer is applicable, as both tests are universally accepted by all institutions without prejudice. In recent years, many East Coast students have been submitting just their ACT scores and are getting accepted to HYP.
