Ok… I am taking the upcoming SAt and I have a few questions

Do I have to put certain colleges down to send scores too…or can I wait till I receive the scores to decide if I want that college to see the score??

Lets say I take the SAT in April and I take it in October… can I only send the October one… or will the April one be automatically sent??

IF I do decide to put certain colleges down which schools should I put down…ie safeties… matches…reaches…

chillin, if you already know which schools you are applying to, you can indicate up to four schools when you register and a score report will be sent to those schools after the exam for free. That score report will include all scores for all SAT I and II tests you have taken to that point. It's all or nothing: if you send scores, all of them will be sent. When you take a later SAT sitting, you must ask again for scores to be sent if you want the new ones sent out; your first request is not perpetual.

You can always wait and see what your scores are before deciding to send them, and you can have your scores to-date sent to schools at any time by paying $9 for each school from the College Board website. (The only scores you don't have to pay extra for are the four you requested when you registered.) But you can't pick-and-choose which scores to send to which schools, and if you take future tests you have to request that they send them again.

Listing 4 schools will save you some money (those schools will get all your scores for free), but you don't have to list any. If you already had your April scores submitted, you can wait and see if October ones are higher before deciding to submit them. Or you can list 4 different schools in October, and if your scores have not changed, you'll have 8 schools 'covered' for free.

chillin' - As nngmm said, Mootmom has it right. How you use this information may depend on your individual situation. D#1 was projected to do well on the SAT and knew which schools she wanted in her Junior year. So we listed those and saved $36. She decided to take the SAT a second time in October of Senior year. She listed NO schools for the retake, in case she inexplicably had a worse score. D#2 was different. As a HS Junior she had no clue which schools were her favorites, and her pretesting indicated that she would likely do better on the ACT. So we did not list any schools when she took the SAT Junior year. Good luck with your own situation.

My daughter took the ACT and did really well, but then took the SAT expecting a similar score and totally tanked (less than 500 on each section). Since we had expected good scores based on the ACT, we sent the SAT scores to her top colleges and there is nothing to do to get them back. I suggest thinking of the worst case scenario before sending them anywhere. Also, think about whether to send the scores to your high school. We have had the devil of a time keeping the nightmarish scores off my daughter's transcript. If we hadn't sent them to the high school, it wouldn't be an issue.
