Should I sent Subject Tests to colleges that don't require them?

Is there any point in sending schools subject tests if they don't require or recommend them? I don't want to waste $100 in sending them if they don't help.

If the school does not explicitly require the SAT Subject Tests do not send them it. I have read that they will not even look at them since they do not affect your admission chances if they are not required.

If you need really well on the subject tests and you have cash to splash, sending them would not hurt you but I doubt it would help much or at all.

My son did well on chem and bio. We sent them in to his school which is SAT optional. He ended up receiving a $10,000 a year department of biochemistry scholarship. I’m happy with the investment.

Not sure why there is necessarily an extra $100 to send them. If you are going to be applying next fall and need to send an SAT, you can send the subject tests at the same time for no additional cost.

Majority of colleges do not consider subject tests for admission even if you send them. As indicated above, however, some of those will consider them for placement or scholarships after you have been admitted. You can usually find out if they do by searching for the information on the college’s site.

You mention colleges that “require or recommend” them. Note that there are three categories of colleges that consider subject tests for admission: those that require them, those that recommend them, and those that neither require nor recommend them but will give them some consideration if submitted. Go here for a list: [Compass: Admissions Requirements](<a href=“SAT Subject Test Requirements and Recommendations - Compass Education Group”>SAT Subject Test Requirements and Recommendations - Compass Education Group)

I didn’t take the SAT, so it would cost extra to send them.

Thanks for the link, most of the schools on my list either recommend or require, and UT Austin considers, so I’ll send them to all of them I guess.

if they are strong, i.e., over the median, definitely send them.

It can only help you. Send it.
