My friend, who got into some great schools, advised me to apply to each school one by one by sending the commonapp one by one. How exactly does this work?

You can choose the schools you want to send the common app to when you hit "submit" --- you don't have to do them all at once. You could go into the app & send to one school, and repeat. However, I am not sure what difference this makes. If you are changing your essay to reflect the individual school, you would certainly want to make sure you only send it to that particular school. Then you'd have to change it before you sent it to a different school. If you have a generic essay, though, there really is no reason to send it at different times.

The main reason to send the app one at a time is so the college you are applying to DOES NOT SEE where else you are applying, in case they might draw a conclusion as to how much you actually want to attend their school.

menlo-how do you know that a college sees the list of other schools you are applying to in one common app submit batch? This is surprising to me.
