Should I seriously consider McGill?

I got in as a food science major, which is 22k tuition plus residence. I will be switching to double major in business and a communications, which should be fine as long as I keep my GPA up. I don't have to declare a major until junior year, so I'm hoping to go with 22k tuition the first two years, as a BCom major's tuition is 37k if I was to go that route.

I'm an American so that's why their tuition is more spiked, but still, world rankings wise McGill is the highest ranked school I got into. I like Canada and took french for two years in high school. But still, McGill is kind of unchartered waters for me, I don't know much about the school.

It's still a cheaper alternative to the other schools I'm seriously considering...UDenver, BU, Northeastern, Pitt, UMass.

Should I seriously look into attending McGill?

You need to find out just exactly how easy it will be to switch majors once you get there. Is it possible at all? Will it add on a year (or more) to your studies?

What state are you from? Most states do have a decent public U where the tuition, fees, housing, and meals will come in under the total cost of McGill, and you have access to federal aid if you are in the US.

I heard from one student it’s fairly easy after one semester(core classes i’d need to take anyway) as long as your GPA is solid.

I’m from New York. I was accepted to U of Buffalo which is pretty cheap, got into Syracuse as well. I don’t really have much interest in staying in New York for school however.

If it’s not too hard to change majors (which I doubt that it is) you should seriously consider McGill. It has a much better reputation internationally than the others, so unless New York schools are much cheaper and that’s crucial to you, it seems like an excellent choice. It’s in a great city and you’ll meet students from all over the world. The main complaint I’ve heard is that there isn’t much of a campus. It’s kind of NYU-like. Hopefully you can go to accepted student days.
