So this is what’s happening. I was a former student at TSU (Texas southern university) and attended the fall 2014 semester. I applied for FAFSA as well as scholarships and didn’t receive any grants .My financial aid and my scholarship money was enough by the end of my fall semester (not surprised) but I was surprised at how much they charged me by the end of the semester and how much I had to pay them back. So I didn’t attend the college for the next semester so that I could continue working but due to amount of finance I get at the moment im not able to pay them back. So I just laid it off until I had a decent job to start paying. I didn’t want to take out a loan due to the fact of the higher interest rates and more technical for not being able to pay them timely. So now I would like to attend a community college which is HCC (Houston community college) for 2015 fall semester. Unfortunately they want a copy of transcripts from all the schools I attended as well as high school. The only problem is since im not paying TSU asap they put a hold on my account so I wouldn’t be able to receive my transcript. I also thought about the fact that University classes wouldn’t match up to community college classes and my GPA of a 2.7 would transfer over and it wouldn’t do any good paying TSU for the classes if there there’s no point in use of the credits towards my associates degree at the moment . I am aware with is that you can get into trouble for not showing them the other university’s you attended and im also aware they can use clear house if they were seeking for my transcript. So I can either tell the truth and start paying for pointless classes (included one failed out of the six) become broke and start at a comminuty college with a low GPA or tell the truth and tell a lie to why I can be able to get my transcript or the worst just full out lie and say I took the year break. PLEASE H
How much do you owe? Can your parents lian you the money? You should pay the school back, get your transcript released, and go to the cc. If you lie, you’ll likely be caught, then you can be kicked put of school or have your diploma rescinded. You can also try contacting TSU to set up a payment plan, then talk to the cc to see if you can attend classes if you can show you’re paying the other school.
When you borrow money to attend college, that is money that you are obligated to pay back, regardless of how well you did in the classes. Tuition at TSU is roughly $4K per semester in-state. My guess is that you were already on their payment plan (otherwise you wouldn’t have been able to start classes)–you just aren’t paying. You need to take care of this debt. It needs to be a priority. Just get a better job if need be, and pay it off. You can start at HCC in the spring of 2016 instead. Accumulating debts with no plan to pay them off is no way to go into your twenties. It will leave you with a wrecked credit rating, a bad reputation, and will make it all the much harder to get ahead in this world.
HCC needs the transcript from TSU. Period. This is a requirement for admission to a degree program at every accredited college an university in the US. It doesn’t matter how old your transcripts are. It doesn’t matter how good or bad they are. It doesn’t matter if the other place was accredited or not, or even if it was in the US. You have to send the transcript.
So, you need to sort out the financial situation with TSU. Contact them and find out how much you still owe. Set up a payment plan. Pay the bill off. Then when your transcript is released you can get on with the rest of you life.
