should i sit through another 5 hour torture test? :(

hey, i have a quick question whether or not i should retake the SAT. I asked my counselor, but she ended up telling me the classic "decide for yourself" line.

anyway, here's my situation. i took it for the first time in may, and got 770 CR, 780 W, and 690 M for 2240 overall. I'm happy with my score, but I think i'm pretty good at math as well, and i can easily bring it up. I got 780 on my SAT2 math2 subject test. honestly, i don't know how i got 690, but i did.

so, should i take it again, get a higher math score but have writing and CR drop a bit (i won't study for either very much, so i'll probably be around 700 each), or would my math SAT subject test be enough to tell colleges that it was sort of a fluke?

thanks a lot.

If you have time, it might not be a best thing to do.

But, check at college(s) that you will apply to see if they accept SAT by dates or by sections.

The fact that you got 780 on SAT II should help a bit.

And I agree with you. I got 760 and 740 on SAT I Math because of such dumb mistakes. And on SAT II, I pulled 800 without that much trying (It was easy…).

haha yeah, the math2 test was a lot easier than i thought. i only spent a week or so preparing for it, but most of the stuff i could do on my ti 89. :D

so assuming most of my college choices superscore, should i take it again? i mean, a 2300+ does look better than 2240, but if my other two sections drop a bit, what would colleges think?

thanks for replying btw.

oh btw, i meant 4 hour test, not 5 hour… lol.

Of course you should retake it .YOu will be a consummate (nice word  ) fool if you score 770 on CR and cant break 750 on M :)

I think rest of ECs and LORs also matter. But, I’m not just saying, “Go, do it!” because re-taking SAT is not just additional four hours of your time. You have to spend outside time studying more, which could be used for doing something else (i.e. working on projects that make you distinctive!).

I remember that one person I know got accepted into either MIT or Harvard by doing something creative… He wrote a poem in the admission essay. I mean, he had good SAT scores too, but this distinctive action set him apart from other applicants.

i dont see how someone who considers taking just one sat test as a ‘torture test’ can score well.

I honestly think that you should go back and take it again. Get yourself a blue book for this summer, sit down, and just do practice tests whilst evaluating errors. You can increase your math score quite a bit. (From experience) This will definitely get you into the 2300’s, and you never know, you could pull off a 2400.

Good luck to you!

haha, regardless of the score, i think we can all agree it’s sort of like a torture test. at least that’s how i felt. might not be politically correct though lol.

and zupchurch, i wiped out the 8 bluebook tests. =] but i’ll probably buy the 10 real SAT book and take the SAT again; that’s what a lot of people are saying. dunno about the 2400 though lol.

thanks to everyone for their input. :D

Remember that July 21, the second edition blue book comes out, so that will give you plenty of time to study up before the next testing sessions. There is also the online tests provided by collegeboard in the online service advertised thoroughly in the blue book. (Although the program is about 60 bucks.)

And like you said the 10 Real Sat book is a good source too.

Good luck, I hope you pull that 2400 off to prove to yourself that you can!

nah. go and play halo or do a chick instead.

this is one of the few cases where a 2200+ student should retake. If you scored substantially below what you think you can do on a particular section, and have real evidence to convince yourself of it (people telling you or you telling yourself that you’re smart and special isn’t good enough. im talking superior performance on practise tests and PSAT), you should retake.

Same thing happened with me for CR. I got an 80 on the PSAT and scored in the upper 700s on practise tests, but scored a 710 on the test. I think i can def do better and raise my score from a competitive level to a more competitive level. You seem like you can, too.

and to the above poster, i doubt you can find a chick to bang at that time on a saturday morning. women aren’t sex objects. they’re people. which means they need sleep.
oh, and may deserve the dignity of being more than an alternative activity to standardised testing.
