This fall I will be a sophomore in high school and should be enrolled in algebra II. I am currently taking an algebra II class this summer and hope to pass my school's final before september.

My question is whether or not I should continue with my plan because my school refuses to accept outside courses and will not put it on my transcript. I was not asking for credit, just the course listed as taken My guidence counsler basically told me to do what I wanted and e-mail her with the answer.

The pros of taking a summer course would be that I could move up to pre-calc in 10th grade and the take both AP calcs in 11th and 12th. Doing this would not put me ahead of my classmates because many of them took algebra II in the 9th grade.

The downside is that Algebra II will simply be missing from my transcript. My math courses would go from geometry to pre-calc, AP calc AB, and AP calc BC. Is it possible to show colleges my transcript from the summer course?

OR... should i just finish up my algebra II course this summer and take the same class during the school year, too?

I like math a lot and really want to be able to take both APs!!!
Thanks for the advice -- I hope this wasnt too confusing :)

You can send in your transcript for the summer course in addition to your high school transcript to the various colleges. You can also list the summer course on your application.

Are you certain, though, that your school will let you "skip" Algebra II on the basis of the summer course? Or is it a pre-req for another course, and they won't recognize the summer course?

It doesn't matter if Algebra II goes on oyur transcript. To do AP Calc you need to know your stuff, so if you do well there then colleges will know you could do well in Algebra II.

You're fine. But don't take alg II twice. It's completely unnecessary. And it doesn't matter if alg II shows up or not. Math builds on itself, so if you do well in precalc and calc, colleges would assume that you did fine in your earlier classes.

take the course over the summer. you ccan mention that you took an algebra course, because colleges often ask on their applications what you did over the summer. Take precalc in sophomore year so that you can be at least competitive in math with your peers.
