Pitt...he can take calc as regular or honors...not quite sure what that means.

Honors will be either faster paced or more in depth. I would suggest that he takes it if he's a good student and interested in calculus, but I'm not familiar with Pitt's programs. I will, however, be down the street at Carnegie Mellon.

He got accepted at CMU, his first choice, but very minimal financial aid caused us to choose between case and pitt. Pitt won because he can still keep his job at the science center and study with his same music teacher.

oh wow, to GTO... don't retake calc III! Even with studying, if you got a 5, you must understand the concepts pretty well, and you'll be bored out of you mind retaking it.

I got a 4 on the BC (5 AB subscore), but I was hesitant to skip to calc III because I didn't understand any of the series/sequence stuff... big mistake. I still didn't get it after retaking calc II, and I was bored for 90% of the class. Besides, the series/sequence stuff doesn't really come up again until after DiffEQ.

to duh... uc_benz is totally right... Really, the most important thing to get out of calc II is the techniques for integration/differentiation, and the purpose and concepts behind them. Calc III is mostly Calc II in 3D... so understanding why and where you integrate is pretty important.

you can do fine in calc 3 without a great grasp in calc 2. I took the two a year apart and never really paid much attention in calc 2 but got a B+ but calc 3 is all visual and its all about having good spatial skills.

U should go into Calc III if u retained most of what you learned from Calc I-II - theres no point in repeating a course and paying massive bucks to do so. Also, being naturally inclined and interested in math will help. Depending on the school, some ppl. find retaking Calc II to be just as demanding as skipping to III b/c its more in-depth than whats in the BC curriculum.

besides, you can just review material that you've forgotten and learn the little bit that you might not have covered at all/thoroughly from ur AP class. Thats what I'm gonna be doing with calc and with the other classes I got credit for.

laurezer, you mean don't re-take calc 2 right

oh oops! yeah don't retake calc II :)

oh... and i meant that i did retake it and it bored me out of my mind... geez you'd think after all that math i could get some numbers straight, hah. typos bad, hehe

take calc 1 again, why are you thinking about taking calc 3? you can't even solve a simple BC question
