Should I skip school for a day if I'm too stressed out?

Idk, after taking the PSAT today and not doing so well and w/ all these APs, I just feel so stressed out and everything just seems messed up with my life right now and I'm so tired of everything and all I've been doing is crying and I just need the world to pause for a sec or I'm going to have a freaking mental breakdown

Do you think I should just take a day off? Ugh.

Well I’m a freshmen and I have been doing that for the past few days. I don’t recommend it because either way you will still have to do the work you missed that day.

I’d be off every other day if I did that.

Only take a day off if you know that you’re not going to miss any lectures or tests because all the makeup work will just make your life twice as stressful. I only had chemistry (very easy class) and tennis after lunch last year so when I needed time off I just left at lunch 12:20. Gave me the chance to catch up on all my homework without missing a large chunk of my day.

I know this probably isn’t what you want to hear, but if you’re taking at least one AP class, skipping will just make you more stressed out, because you’ll just have to deal with makeup work.

Missing school for a day isn’t a big deal in itself, but it’s problematic that you’re experiencing stress to the point where you feel like you need to miss school.

I take a break from school for a day every month. One day a month put aside for just staying home, chilling, relaxing. This is a deal i made with my mom also. I just pick whatever day will work out the best for me, tell my teachers ahead of time to get work for that day, get the absence excused, and then I just spend that day out of school to relax. Sit back and relax. sometimes I catch up on some schoolwork, read a book, have some tea, have a bath, all while relaxing.
I used to be so stressed and messed up my sophomore year of high school, eventually I got really depressed and ended up skipping 120+ total periods my second semester. Dont do that. Dont let yourself get that bad. Take things easy, learn to cope, relax. Remember, nothing will be worth it when you cant even function anymore. You deserve a break once in a while. Good luck.

Wow, in my opinion everyone here is being so dramatic (no offense). Missing one day of school is not the end of the world; you will not automatically be screwed for all your AP classes. My junior year, I took a “mental health day” maybe once a month or once every other month; even the best of students can be overwhelmed by circumstances. You will feel a lot better taking a break to relax and to gain some perspective of your situation. Not treating stress has MUCH worse consequences than missing just one day of school.

Whenever I do this, one day turns into two, then three, then four, because with the amount of makeup work, it just gets even more stressful :(

I’ve done this a couple times, but I tried to pick short days (some days we only have 3-4 classes as opposed to 6) or days which you know will be easy or when there won’t be any tests or important info. But honestly, if you’re as stressed as you say you are, you probably won’t get much out of the school day anyway. I say choose an easy day to take off and just sleep in, catch up on work, drink tea/soothing beverage of choice, etc.

In my opinion, no. From my experience, missing days has just stressed me out even more.

If you feel like you really need a break from everything then you should, but pick a short day so you don’t stress yourself out even more by having to catch up on stuff you miss.
