I know that first and third quarters do not matter in the college process. Should I relax and get worse grades? Or should I keep trying my best?
Should I use this time to do other things like join programs?

Nah, you'll need the stuff you learn in your senior year for college. You don't want to come in with weak fundamentals.

i am a sophmore

I second the above post, try your best, it looks better, you should never slack off.

Don't slack! Slacking gets you no where.

DO NOT slack off, ESPECIALLY if you're a sophomore! Unless you are very confident you can pull up your grades w/ the 4th quarter, but if you really mean slack off, then that's impossible. Even as a senior, you shouldn't. I hear of people getting into HYPSM early and then just don't care about school. I'm like WHAT ARE YOU DOING??? The whole point is that you should continue working hard and moving forward. It's NOT JUST ABOUT getting in, it's a mindset and a way of life. Plus it will set some BAD fundamentals for college. I'd think that getting into HYPSM would make you want to work even harder. Of course, J Chin, I know you haven't gotten in anywhere, I was just speaking in generalities.

Who told you that you could ever slack off? Clearly someone who is incredibly misinformed, or currently attending community college. lol

SHOULD you slack off? Are you serious? No, you should not slack off. Colleges do care. Stop procrastinating now.

Of course you shouldn't slack off. The only time you can safely ease up (as in, try to get more sleep in exchange for not doing work) is maybe in your senior year, after you've already gotten into a school ED/A or something. Or last quarter senior year in general.

You're a sophomore. Keep working. :]

Beside - as you get older, you'll learn how to become lazier without a diminution in grades or learning.

Definitely NOT a good idea to slack sophomore year.
