Should I Spend $750?

I'm a rising freshman interested in learning Latin. My school doesn't offer a Latin course, but I could take a $1350 extended education (adult) class through the U of MN. My GC recommended that I find an online course instead, so I looked into www.flvsgs.net -- it seems like a viable option; they are accredited and all, but it will cost $750 for one HS credit. I really want to learn Latin and be able to take the National Latin Exam in a couple of years. Should I spend $750 or find another route--i.e. a private tutor or something? Does anyone have any experience with FLVS?

Also: If I take Latin I through FLVS this year, I'll be able to take Latin II next year through the U of MN College-in-the-Schools and gain 5 (hopefully transferable) college credits.

I took Latin I through FLVS...and I just learned to translate itty bitty texts, barely learned to speak it...Thats about it.

I don't think its worth $750....Why not buy the Rosetta stone program?

^ i was just about to suggest that. i think latin is a really useful and interesting language to learn, but not for that much money. i wouldnt pay that much to learn a language.

then again i am pretty stingy.

Check with your library to see if they offer a subscription to access Rosetta Stone for free- my library allows me to access Rosetta Stone online and learn Latin and other languages as long as I had a library card.

Does it really work?
