I have 670 in CR, international student... I just took a little test from SAT subject test booklet, got 11/14, 3 mistakes. Are there too many definitions to learn? If one is relatively good in CR, can he handle literature? Will I be able to review all the 'must know' stuff till the Dec 6? I aim for about 600-650+, it's not needed for me as I have 4 subject tests already planned (3 from different areas), but I just thought it would benefit 'all-roundness'.

The Lit test is tough, even for US-educated kids. The best way to answer your question is for you to pickup a copy of a prep book somewhere (library?) and take a practice test at home. Collegeboard’s book is best, but many posters on cc also like Kaplan for Lit. Can you memorize the key terms in time, sure, but the question is can the tester interpret the nuances in the passages. Or, take it in Jan, since some colleges will accept that score.

btw: You can only take 3 tests in one day.

SAT literature is much, much harder than CR. It’s not even definitions…it’s just close, critical reading of hard to understand material.

Don’t try it unless you’re reeeeally good at CR. Even then, at the time of my 760 CR I scored a 650 lit. It wasn’t 'till I got older and practiced a lot that I could pull a 710 (which is still only 3/4 right).

Literature involves much closer reading of passages, including poetry, that are MUCH harder to read if you aren’t used to them.

If you decide to take Lit, prepare using Kaplan. That’s what I did for my 800 Lit score :)

I actually felt that Literature is easier than CR, because you get into a flow of reading and interpreting passages instead of getting interrupted by Math or Writing. But it cannot be denied that the content of Literature is much more difficult.

Yet in the end, my scores on the two tests were comparable.

CR- 730
Lit- 720

Yea I see you guys have different opinions… Thanks anyways.
The booklet was published by collegeboard, so I guess I answered real questions and got 11/14. I will try to find a book and practice some, although I don’t think it’s popular test here; and I don’t have time to order a book. Thanks though

Well, downthemoon, a 730 CR is 61/67 raw, but a 720 lit is about 50/60 raw. So while the scores you got are comparable, it’s because the curve took care of it.

Literature is so much harder than CR it’s not even funny.
