I am currently in my first semester at a community college in Tennessee with the hope of transferring to a good university after my second semester.

I'm actually from Malaysia, but moved to Tennessee 2 months ago. So I didn't go to a high school here in the US. But I took the GED and got a score of 695. I'm a resident of Tennessee - my grandparents are residents here and they have legal guardianship over me.

I was looking at the chances of admission as a transfer student and I found that a lot of the public universities have a sort of admission guarantee with the local community colleges. I also took a look at UNC, UVa, and their respective local community colleges.

Do you think it would be a good idea to move to a different state and attend a community college there, with a good chance of getting accepted into one of the better state universities? If I do make the move, I would do it after my first semester.
Would I be able to transfer my credits or would I not qualify as a transfer student with just one semester under my belt?

Also, does anybody have any experience with out-of-state tuition waivers?
