Hi I am thinking about majoring in Computer Science. I haven't really taken any CS classes yet. I'm worried that I might drop out of it after taking some of the "weed out" classes like Object oriented java and data structures. I really want to go to this private college which is quite expensive but risk losing alot of money if I decide against majoring in CS. So another opportunity is to stay at my local Community college and take those "weed out" classes and if I like it them, I'll transfer to the Private college to finish.

Problem is, being at a local community college for another semester is going to put so much anxiety, loneliness, depression, and temptation on me. But at a result, I get to save alot of money.

Going to straight to this private college will be alot of fun, make friends, and have a belonginess is what I really love but risk wasting money cuz of changing major.

if you’re solely going to the private college for computer science, stay at a CC.

why would you go to that school in general if you’d only be interested for the computer science major. I’m pretty sure if you’re solely doing it for the computer science major, there are schools that are cheaper(publics) that offer the major.

I think it is important though to keep in mind the range of standards that exist in CS majors across American universities. Whatever you take at a CC runs the risk of closing many doors. Moreover, if the private school you’d be taking CS at is generally strong, majoring in another field will not translate to wasted money. Granted, the starting salary you get may be lower as (for example) a German major than a CS major. But stronger institutions have stronger job placement, so you will probably still be well served by the private school.

If you do not know whether or not you really like computer programming, I think it is a very very good idea to take some computer programming classes first. College is very different for a computer science or engineering major compared to a liberal arts major or, say, a chemistry major.

Take whatever classes you want (computer science or otherwise) at any school you want (community college or otherwise). Additional knowledge never closes doors.
