so, I'm in my school's band (concert/marching).. and i've been in band since 5th grade. as has everyone else. anyway, I really don't enjoy it anymore. we got a new director and he's kind of terrible.. our marching band shows aren't nearly as good as they were with our old director and everyone notices. anyway that's beside the point.

I play flute but i'm not very good even after all these years.. and i really just don't like to play it anymore. ha

I'm going to be a senior this year and the only thing stopping me from quitting, really, would be that it could potentially harm my chances of getting into college. do you think it would? it might look as though I'm not committed or something. idk.

I really want to take Journalism my senior year though but I can't unless I quit band. we have trimesters, so band takes up a lot of my schedule and I haven't gotten to take any extra classes I've wanted to throughout high school. I thought my senior year would be the perfect time to do so. I'm also taking a class at the college so that would allow me to have a free hour where I would normally have band. and then journalism would take up the other two spots.

I just don't know! am I going to regret it? band isss an easy A.. and a pretty easy class overall.. but the fact of the matter is I'm totally not interested in it and it bores me to death. haha. oh, and i don't want to go to band camp. yuck.

If you don’t like it don’t do it. You get one senior year. You shouldn’t waste it taking classes that you have no interest in. I don’t suppose it will hurt your college apps much.

Don’ t know what colleges you are applying to , but 8 years of band shows you commit to something on a long range basis . It doesn 't matter how good you are !

Please do it! Stay in! If I could go back and stay in, I would. Even if you’re not good now, you can always improve! It looks good for colleges. It’s like a built-in EC that you don’t really need to allow time outside of school for. I feel left out when I see kids who I used to play with in their little band shirts and I’m not one of them. It doesn’t seem as bad as I envisioned it. The band teacher at my school is awesome. I remember telling myself I’ll still play my saxophone on my own time…didn’t happen. Whenever I hear a saxophone play I feel guilty and like I could’ve gone on to play like that…

Don’t make me even more depressed! Did ya upgrade from tenor to baritone (as your username suggests)? I used to play alto. I was first chair! Gosh darn it why am I so stupid

Don’t stay in I mean you obviously arn’t going to continue with band after high school and why waste time doing something you don’t enjoy? Take journalism because that’s what you want to do. I don’t think colleges will look at it as quitting. They prefer you do something new and that you are passionate about instead of forcing yourself to do something just for the sake of it looking good on a college application.

I started alto (main one), played bari last year, played tenor from time to time. Tenor sax is the most fun overall, bari is easy to shape the air so that’s why I was playing it then, alto is alright.

I’m getting a soprano soon, just need to finish up Craigslist deal first -_-

Just quit. I was in band for a couple of years and I quit. It was the biggest time drain of my life and our director sucked.

The football games were fun though :)! BTW - are you in a corp style or a traditional style marching band? I was in a traditional style marching band (high-step, lol).

^ Haha, even I devote dozens of hours to band per week - and that’s just practice, I lost count of the hours I devoted to drum major. And I’m still far from done -_-

To the OP, I doubt it’ll hurt you much, just as long as you have a decent profile to back yourself up.

As a band member myself, I say don’t do drop out now. Band has become an important part of your life, and you should stick with it. It’s kind of silly to quit right before the finish line.
